About Positano
Positano feels dramatic and cinematic, all steep lanes, pastel facades, and sea views spilling down the cliffs. It’s best for slow strolling, scenic cafés, and lingering dinners rather than easy logistics. Expect lively summer crowds, frequent steps, and a polished, destination-like buzz that rewards travelers who love atmosphere over convenience.
Pros
Spectacular cliffside scenery everywhere
Memorable dining and sunset views
Great for lingering, low-speed exploration
Considerations
Steep streets can be tiring
Can feel crowded and lively

Salerno’s historic core around Via dei Mercanti feels compact, lively, and deeply walkable, with Amalfi’s coastal landmarks within easy reach by local transport and sea connections. Expect a mix of everyday Italian energy, old-stone streets, and strong dining appeal, plus moderate bustle that rises near sightseeing spots and evening promenades.
Excellent base for sightseeing and coastal day trips.
Amalfi feels like a lively, compact seaside town where landmark-hopping is easy and the waterfront energy never really stops. Around Fontana Sant'Andrea, Amalfi Busto Di Sant'Andrea, and the harbor-side shops, the atmosphere blends historic charm, ferry-and-bus bustle, and casual dining. Expect crowds, cheerful noise, and a distinctly tourist-friendly, come-and-go rhythm.
Easy access to central landmarks and waterfront sights
Ravello feels poised above the Amalfi Coast, calmer and more refined than the seafront bustle below. Sightseeing centers on scenic viewpoints, gardens, and nearby Amalfi highlights like Fontana Sant'Andrea, Amalfi Busto Di Sant'Andrea, and Mercanti d'Arte. It suits travelers wanting elegance, quieter evenings, and easy access to coastal culture rather than constant action.
Agerola feels like a cool, upland base above the Amalfi bustle: quieter, greener, and more local, with mountain air and sweeping views toward the coast. Sightseeing is more of a scenic-hop than a doorstep stroll, but it suits travelers who prefer calmer evenings, hearty trattorias, and easy access by bus to Amalfi’s landmarks and waterfront.
I wish that we could return every year, a gem of Positano.
The view from our room was simply breathtaking, every time of the day offered something stunning. After that, the family who run the hotel were exceptional in their assistance and communication, nothing was a problem and their recommendations as locals were class. We have fallen in love with Villa Nettuno and do not want to leave. Also the bed is super comfy.

Incredibly awesome service and accommodations!
This unit was exceptional in every way. What made our stay the best was the kindness of the host. From the minute we arrived, Antonio and his brothers were exceptionally kind with arranging parking for our vehicle and provided many details regarding the area and places to eat and enjoy. We felt that they were our friends and wanted the very best for us. So, so appreciated!! The unit itself is awesome. The rooms were perfectly appointed, with an amazing bathroom with so many special touches. The shower itself was incredible, with all sorts of extras. The view from the deck is amazing. We felt so comfortable in this room and so appreciated knowing that Antonio and his brothers were always ready and available to help us in any way.
Could be better
That we had to leave. This property makes you want to stay longer. We were only there for a few nights, and we wished we had booked longer.
